A new poll finds that about six-in-ten Americans say the nation’s economic system unfairly favors powerful interests.

And, according to the new Pew Research Center survey, the partisan divide on this question has grown.

Pew found that a 54% majority of Republicans think the U.S. economic system is unfair, but that number has been shrinking in recent years.

However, the percentage of Democrats who call it unfair has dramatically increased since 2016 – from 76% then to 84% today.

A full 69% of Democrats also said they believed that people are poor because of “circumstances beyond their control.”

Nearly eight-in-ten conservative Republicans say a person is more likely to be wealthy because they worked harder.
