Ex-Florida school administrator charged with taking bribe

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A former South Florida school official is facing charged that he took bribes to direct a $17 million electronics contract to a Georgia company while bypassing the normal bidding process.  A statewide grand jury charged former Broward County schools administrator Tony Hunter with bid tampering and receiving unlawful compensation. Officials say Hunter accepted a job and a large discount on a lakefront home in exchange for directing the purchase to a company, Education Consultants, in 2019. A newspaper investigation showed another school district paid about half for similar equipment.  Hunter's attorney denied wrongdoing. Broward school officials say they have improved existing procedures.
