3 Floridians convicted in deadly drug trafficking operation

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Three Florida men have been convicted of murder as part of a drug trafficking operation.

Court records say 26-year-old Jordan Rodriguez, 25-year-old Andrew Thompson and 32-year-old Alfonzo Churchwell were found guilty Tuesday of charges including racketeering conspiracy, drug conspiracy, murder conspiracy, drug and firearms offenses and four murders. A sentencing date wasn't immediately set.

Prosecutors say seven people were charged in July in a 20-count superseding indictment that claimed the group had a violent and deadly rivalry with others in the Bradenton-area community of Oneco. The other four defendants pleaded guilty to a variety of charges rather than go to trial.

Prosecutors say the defendants worked together to traffic in controlled substances and to control and protect their drug business with violence and murder.
