Amazon denied a report on Tuesday that it planned to disclose to customers on its website the cost that U.S. tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump were adding to its products, after the White House blasted the idea.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said she had discussed with Trump a report by Punchbowl News about plans to disclose tariff costs, and his message about it was: “This is a hostile and political act by Amazon.”

President Donald Trump is holding a rally in Michigan to mark the first 100 days of his second term. The Republican president on Tuesday will be staging his largest public event since returning to the White House in a state that's been rocked by his steep trade tariffs and combative attitude toward Canada. Trump is making an afternoon visit to Selfridge Air National Guard Base for an announcement alongside Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Trump later will speak at a rally north of Detroit. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says Trump will sign an executive order relaxing some of his tariffs on cars and auto parts.
Canada has elected liberal leader Mark Carney to be their next prime minister. The moves comes during tension between Canada and America as a trade war picks up speed. Will our neighbors to the north regret their decision?
The move likely will benefit biofuel producers and corn farmers, as it is expected to expand the market for their products. See more on Salem News Channel.

Officials say a suspect has been arrested in connection with last week's theft of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse as she ate at a Washington, D.C., restaurant. Noem’s purse was nabbed on Easter Sunday and reportedly contained about $3,000 in cash, her keys, driver’s license, passport and Homeland Security badge. The department said Noem had cash in her purse to pay for gifts, dinner and other activities for her family on Easter. The Secret Service says the suspect was taken into custody without incident in Washington, D.C. It calls the suspect a “serial offender.”
Chevron has started oil and gas production from a project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the oil major said on Monday, bringing the company a step closer toward its goal of growing production from the ocean basin by 50% this year.
The $1.6 billion project called Ballymore, located about 160 miles southeast of New Orleans, is composed of three wells that is expected to produce up to 75,000 barrels of oil per day.
Chevron aims to grow oil and gas production from the Gulf to 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2026, and at the same time, it is working to cut up to $3 billion in costs across the business. Instead of building a new production platform for Ballymore, the wells will transport oil and gas back to an existing platform, which the company said will allow it to increase production at less expense.
"Ballymore is interesting in that it's a tie-back to an existing facility, which has allowed us to bring production to market more quickly," said Bruce Niemeyer, president of Americas exploration and production, in an interview.
The project is also Chevron's first in a geological formation of the Gulf called Norphlet, where the oil and gas industry has historically had fewer discoveries than in other parts of the ocean basin, he added.
Advancements in technology are key to expanding resource exploration, such as the use of ocean bottom nodes, which allow geophysicists to collect better data underneath the ocean floor, Niemeyer said.
Chevron is the operator of Ballymore with a 60% interest, while co-owner TotalEnergies has 40%. Ballymore holds an estimated 150 million barrels of oil equivalent in potentially recoverable resources.
The company owns 370 leases in the Gulf of Mexico and expects to participate in a lease sale this year by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, Niemeyer said.
The Ballymore start-up comes after Chevron announced first oil in August at Anchor, a Gulf of Mexico project that is a technological breakthrough with the ability to operate in deepwater pressures of up to 20,000 pounds per square inch.
A major power outage in Spain and Portugal has knocked out subway networks, traffic signals and ATMs. Spanish power distributor Red Eléctrica says restoring power to large parts of the country could take 6-10 hours. The company declined to speculate on the causes of the blackout Monday. The Portuguese National Cybersecurity Center says there was no sign of a cyberattack. The outage hit across Spain and Portugal, including their capitals. Later Monday, Spain’s electricity network operator said it was recovering power in the north and south of the peninsula, which would help to progressively restore the electricity supply nationwide.
