#1 Vegetable for Men’s Health (Backed by Science!)

Saturday, February 28, 2026

On today’s episode of Ask the Dr., hosted by Dr. Michael Lange and Roger Schulman, we dive into powerful, natural strategies to support men’s health, prostate health, testosterone, and longevity.

Dr. Lange discusses the importance of building health from the inside out — focusing on nutrition, exercise, and targeted supplementation to optimize wellness, muscle function, and cellular protection.

A major highlight of the show was the discussion on non-denatured whey protein concentrate, particularly sourced from New Zealand. Dr. Lange explains how a high-quality whey protein, like Fortifeye Super Protein, helps stimulate the body’s natural production of glutathione, one of the most powerful antioxidants in the body, while also supporting lean muscle synthesis and recovery.

The show also covered one of the most important foods for men’s health — broccoli sprouts. Rich in sulforaphane, broccoli sprouts may help support prostate health, testosterone balance, detoxification pathways, and glutathione production.

Dr. Lange also emphasized the importance of cooked tomatoes, tomato paste, and tomato sauce, which are rich in lycopene, a key nutrient linked to prostate health and longevity. Dr. Lange and Roger shared their own morning workout routine and discussed their post-workout recovery protocol, including orange juice combined with creatine monohydrate (Creapure®) and MyHMB, designed to support muscle recovery, strength, and performance.

During the show, Dr. Lange outlined three key things to look for on a whey protein label:
• Non-denatured protein
• Cold-processed / undamaged proteins
• Sourced from high-quality, grass-fed cows (preferably New Zealand)

Callers joined the show with a variety of health questions, and the hosts also talked about the incredible success of this year’s Lange Eye Institute Mardi Gras Festival, thanking the community for their support.

Dr. Lange also shared a simple, powerful men’s longevity stack that includes:
• Non-denatured whey protein
• Broccoli sprouts
• Pomegranate

Finally, Dr. Lange gave a preview of an exciting upcoming launch — Fortifeye Fit Meal, a fully transparent, doctor-developed meal replacement designed for weight management, metabolism, anti-aging, and longevity, combining advanced nutrition with cutting-edge ingredient science.

If you’re looking to improve your health naturally and take control of your longevity, this episode is packed with practical, science-based insights.

The Missing Nutrient in Today’s Diet: Carotenoids, GLA & Advanced Dry Eye Care

Saturday, February 7, 2026

Dr. Michael Lange and Dr. Susan Summerton hosted Ask the Dr this morning from Salem Media, opening the show with a discussion on the power of proper nutrition and the importance of consuming adequate protein in the morning to support metabolism, muscle health, energy, and brain function.

During a caller discussion, Dr. Lange emphasized the importance of xanthophyll carotenoids, particularly lutein and zeaxanthin, which play a critical role in protecting the macula and supporting long-term visual performance. The doctors also discussed cholesterol and statin medications, and how these drugs may interfere with the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients, including lutein and zeaxanthin. Dr. Lange recommends Fortifeye Focus for anyone who spends extended time on computers or digital devices, as these carotenoids help protect the macula from blue-light damage.

Both doctors highlighted what Dr. Lange described as a missing nutrient in today’s Standard American Diet—black currant seed oil. Unlike most oils, black currant seed oil naturally contains omega-6 (GLA), omega-3 (ALA), and omega-9 fatty acids, making it a uniquely balanced essential fat source. Dr. Lange explained that GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) is particularly lacking in modern diets and plays a key role in controlling inflammation, supporting dry eye, skin health, joint comfort, and overall cellular function. Fortifeye Black Currant Seed Oil / GLA was discussed as an effective way to restore this critical fatty acid balance.

The show also addressed nutrition strategies for constipation, discussed eye floaters and warning signs to be aware of, and offered practical guidance for improving overall systemic and ocular health.

Dr. Lange took time to express gratitude to several mentors from Louisiana who helped shape his career, including Dr. Richard K. Lange (his father), Dr. Charlie Glazer of St. Charles Vision, and Dr. Steve Brint of Eye Surgery Center of Louisiana.

The program concluded with an in-depth segment on dry eye disease, focusing on two advanced technologies designed for more resistant cases—Lumenis OptiLight and OptiLift, available exclusively at the Lange Eye Institute. Dr. Summerton also discussed the benefits of appropriate light exposure for memory, energy, and concentration, while emphasizing the importance of limiting digital screen time at night to support restorative sleep.

Why whey protein is disappearing worldwide and new research on carotenoids and GLA - Dry Eye and Atrial Fibrillation: The Hidden Connection plus photobiomodulation updates.

Sunday, February 1, 2026

Today’s episode of Ask the Doctor was hosted by Dr. Michael Lange and Dr. Susan Summerton. Ask the Doctor is the longest-running live, syndicated medical talk show in the United States, broadcasting coast-to-coast for over 33 years.

We opened the show discussing the massive global whey protein shortage. Whey protein is extremely difficult to obtain worldwide due to increased demand from patients using GLP-1 receptor drugs, who are being advised to consume higher protein intake to prevent muscle loss. In addition, major corporations such as Starbucks and Dunkin’ have purchased large quantities of whey protein for functional and sports drinks. Because of this shortage, Fortifeye Fit Pro is currently on backorder, though other Fortifeye whey protein products remain available, and we are actively working to secure supply.

We then discussed black currant seed oil and GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) and why GLA may be a missing fatty acid in the modern diet. Fortifeye now offers Black Currant Seed Oil + GLA in a 90-count bottle. GLA helps support dry eye by stimulating Series-1 prostaglandins, which play an important role in controlling inflammation.

Dr. Lange reviewed his clinical experience using Fortifeye Advanced Dry Eye Therapy, which combines:
• Fortifeye Super Omega (RTG-form omega-3)
• Fortifeye Focus
• Fortifeye Black Currant Seed Oil + GLA

This three-supplement combination has been very effective in helping reduce dry eye symptoms and improve overall ocular comfort.

We also discussed the end of the BOGO on Fortifeye Vegan Super Protein. While the BOGO promotion has ended, this remains one of the top vegan proteins on the market, offering an amino acid profile comparable to whey protein, outstanding taste, and three delicious flavors.

In addition, we covered exciting new research on carotenoids including lutein, zeaxanthin, and astaxanthin. These nutrients may help lower triglycerides and cholesterol, support brain health and mood, and may even help with depression. These carotenoids are beneficial for children and adults, supporting not only eye health but systemic and cognitive health as well. All three carotenoids are found together in Fortifeye Focus.

We explained what photobiomodulation therapy (PBM) is and how it works. PBM uses specific wavelengths of low-level red and near-infrared light to stimulate mitochondrial function, increase cellular energy (ATP), improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. As more companies bring this technology to market, increased competition is expected to drive costs down, making this promising therapy more accessible to patients.

Dr. Lange and Dr. Summerton shared their enthusiasm for photobiomodulation therapy as a supportive treatment option for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye disease. Dr. Kane has noted that when diet and supplementation are optimized, this technology may work even more effectively, reinforcing the importance of combining advanced technology with proper nutrition.

Dr. Summerton also weighed in on chelation therapy, explaining how reducing toxic metal burden and oxidative stress may further support cellular health, circulation, and inflammation control. When used appropriately and combined with nutrition and lifestyle optimization, chelation therapy may enhance overall systemic and ocular health.

An important discussion followed on the often-overlooked connection between dry eye disease and atrial fibrillation (AFib). Dr. Lange explained that many patients with both conditions commonly share deficiencies in:
• Magnesium
• Potassium
• Sodium chloride
• Omega-3 fatty acids
• Hydration

These deficiencies may contribute to inflammation, nerve dysfunction, poor tear quality, impaired circulation, and cardiac rhythm instability.

🌿 NATURAL SUPPORT FOR DRY EYE & ATRIAL FIBRILLATION

Dr. Lange and Dr. Summerton reviewed natural strategies that may help support both dry eye and AFib, including:
• Proper hydration with high-quality water
• Restoring electrolyte balance (magnesium, potassium, sodium chloride)
• Consistent intake of omega-3 fatty acids
• Anti-inflammatory nutrition
• Targeted supplementation when appropriate

We also discussed Fortifeye Complete, which serves as a high-quality multivitamin and eye vitamin all in one, helping simplify supplementation while supporting both ocular and systemic health.

This episode highlights the importance of integrating nutrition, lifestyle changes, supplementation, chelation strategies, and emerging technologies to support long-term eye health, heart health, and overall wellness.

Thank you for listening to Ask the Doctor, where science, nutrition, and real-world clinical experience come together.

🎭 Mardi Gras Extravaganza Announcement

The doctors announced the upcoming Mardi Gras Extravaganza at the Lange Eye Institute, taking place February 21st in The Villages. Everyone is invited to attend this fun, educational, community event.

💪 Fortifeye Super Vegan Protein BOGO

Dr. Lange discussed the Buy One, Get One FREE promotion currently running on Fortifeye Super Vegan Protein, available for a limited time on the Fortifeye website.

👁️ Dry Eye Treatment – Natural & Advanced Options

Both doctors reviewed comprehensive dry eye care, including:
• Lid hygiene and lid scrubs
• Warm/hot compress therapy
• Omega-3 fish oil, emphasizing rTG (re-esterified triglyceride) omega-3, such as Fortifeye Super Omega

They also discussed advanced in-office treatments:
• Lumenis OptiLight (IPL therapy)
• Lumenis OptiLift to help lower-lid laxity and meibomian gland dysfunction

🏋️ Creatine & Weight Management

The doctors reviewed new and existing research showing that creatine:
• Supports muscle strength, energy, and overall health
• May help build muscle while supporting fat loss
• Can be used as part of a weight-management strategy, not just for athletes Both doctors discuss the soon to be available Fortifeye Fit Meal one of the most advanced meal replacemnts on the market.

🟢 Glaucoma Awareness Month – Natural Support

In recognition of Glaucoma Awareness Month, the doctors discussed:
• Natural strategies that may support optic nerve health
• The role of omega-3 fatty acids, Mirtogenol, and Neumentix in supporting ocular blood flow

⚠️ These natural approaches do NOT replace medical or surgical glaucoma treatment and are intended only to complement prescribed care. Period.

👁️ Ocular Perfusion Pressure & Blood Pressure

The doctors explained how ocular perfusion pressure (OPP) plays a critical role in glaucoma risk and how both high and low blood pressure can negatively affect optic nerve blood flow.

They emphasized that low diastolic blood pressure, especially at night, can significantly reduce ocular perfusion pressure. Multiple studies show that individuals with low OPP may have a 2–6× higher risk of developing glaucoma.

A diastolic ocular perfusion pressure (DOPP) below ~50 mmHg is associated with:
• Higher glaucoma prevalence
• Faster disease progression
• Increased optic nerve damage

The key takeaway: glaucoma is not only an eye-pressure disease—it is also a vascular disease. Proper blood-pressure management is a critical part of glaucoma care.

Patients with glaucoma should always work closely with their eye doctor and primary care physician. This information is educational and supportive—not a replacement for treatment. Period.

Are You Sleeping Too Much? New Studies on Vision, Brain & Longevity

Saturday, January 3, 2026

Ask the Dr. – First Show of the Year with Dr. Michael Lange & Dr. Susan Summerton

Today’s Ask the Dr. marked the first show of the new year, hosted by Dr. Michael Lange and Dr. Susan Summerton, and it delivered powerful, science-based strategies to help you live longer, healthier, and sharper.

The show opened with a special BOGO offer on Fortifeye Vegan Super Protein, followed by Dr. Lange’s discussion on the importance of high-quality plant-based protein for muscle maintenance, metabolic health, longevity, and overall wellness.

A major segment focused on sleep and visual health. Dr. Lange and Dr. Summerton reviewed emerging studies showing that both too little and too much sleep can negatively impact the visual system and overall health. Current research suggests an ideal sleep range of 6–9 hours per night, while regularly exceeding 9 hours may increase health risks.

The doctors discussed many lessons learned over the past several years that can help reduce disease risk and premature mortality. They emphasized the foundational importance of diet, exercise, sleep, and proper, evidence-based supplementation for enhancing quality of life, reducing mortality, and slowing cognitive decline.

Dr. Lange reviewed the science behind Fortifeye Focus & Brain and discussed key ingredients that support brain circulation, cognition, and neuroprotection. He shared personal insight into how this formulation has helped support his mother’s cognitive abilities.

A major portion of the show focused on the power of omega-3 fatty acids and the importance of using the correct form. Dr. Lange and Dr. Summerton explained why triglyceride (TG) and re-esterified triglyceride (rTG) forms are critical for absorption and effectiveness. They discussed studies showing that Fortifeye Omega-3 fish oils, including Fortifeye Super Omega, raise the Omega-3 Index to an average range of approximately 9.2–11 percent, a level strongly associated with improved heart health, vascular protection, and reduced mortality.

The doctors also discussed the importance of curcumin, emphasizing that only the proper bioavailable form delivers real benefits. Dr. Lange highlighted CurcuGEN curcumin and its potential role in helping with retinal drusen, inflammation, and many other systemic health conditions. Dr. Lange shared that omega-3 fatty acids and curcumin are two of his favorite foundational nutrients for long-term health, eye health, and brain protection.

Both doctors reviewed natural strategies to help reduce clot formation in the body and the eyes, reinforcing the importance of a proactive and integrative approach.

The show concluded with an important discussion on comprehensive eye exams, including dilation and Optomap imaging. Dr. Lange explained how eye exams can detect eye disease and early signs of systemic health problems, including three specific ocular findings that may be associated with an increased risk of dementia. These exams can be vision-saving and life-saving.

Live longer, think sharper, see better: New Years Resolutions to help you thrive & not just survive

Saturday, December 27, 2025

In today’s episode of Ask the Dr., Dr. Michael Lange and Dr. Susan Summerton kick off the New Year with science-backed resolutions designed to help you live longer, think clearer, and thrive—not just survive.

We dive deep into the power of resistance training for cognitive health and longevity, citing multiple studies showing reduced mortality, improved brain function, and healthier aging. Strength training isn’t just about muscles—it’s about protecting your brain and extending lifespan.

We also discuss the critical role of omega-3 fatty acids, highlighting compelling research showing reductions in atrial fibrillation, cardiovascular death, heart attacks, and strokes. Dr. Lange explains why the form of omega-3 matters, recommending rTG or TG forms—and why re-esterified triglyceride omega-3s are among the doctors’ top New Year’s choices. We also cover RTG omega-3s for dry eye disease and ocular surface health.

The doctors break down the benefits of advanced dry eye treatments, including Lumenis OptiLight IPL and OptiLift, explaining how these technologies can improve blink dynamics, reduce inflammation, and dramatically relieve dry eye symptoms.

Nutrition takes center stage as we explore why consuming up to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables daily is associated with reduced chronic disease risk and premature death. We also discuss sports nutrition and body recomposition—how to lose fat while building muscle—using targeted supplementation.

Dr. Lange outlines the Fortifeye Vitality Bundle, which combines:

Fortifeye Fit Pro
Fortifeye Vegan Protein
Fortifeye Rejuvenate
Creatine, myHMB, and Vitamin D

This stack is designed to support muscle recovery, strength, metabolism, and healthy aging, especially when paired with resistance training.

We also emphasize the importance of carbohydrates after workouts to replenish muscle glycogen and accelerate recovery—an often-overlooked key to performance and longevity.

Finally, we stress the importance of routine comprehensive eye exams, including advanced imaging with OptiMap. The eye truly is a window to the body—and these tools can be vision-saving and potentially life-saving by detecting early signs of systemic disease.

This episode is about early prevention, smart nutrition, strength, and mindset—because the goal is not just to survive longer, but to thrive at every stage of life.

Omega 3s, Resistance Training, reducing Clot risk & Brain Health: The Science of Living Longer

Saturday, December 20, 2025

Today’s Ask the Dr. talk show was co-hosted by Dr. Michael Lange and Roger Schulman, and it was an outstanding broadcast from start to finish.

Dr. Lange and Roger reviewed multiple omega-3 studies, highlighting how higher baseline omega-3 blood levels are associated with significant reductions in heart attacks, strokes, atrial fibrillation, and overall cardiovascular risk. They emphasized that omega-3 status before disease develops plays a critical role in long-term outcomes. The newest studies prove that higher omega 3 levels in the blood reduces atrial fibrillation events. High quality, bioavailable rTG omega 3 taken daily is the key. Dr Lange is involved in continuous research in the omega 3 field and developed Fortifeye Super Omega and Fortifeye Super Omega 3 Max. These omega 3 fish oils are concentrated and purified in the top omega 3 research and development centers in Norway.

The show also covered a new and exciting study demonstrating that as little as 60 minutes of resistance training per week can reduce all-cause mortality by up to 27%, reinforcing the importance of strength training for longevity. However, he does sate you will have to do more weight training than 10 minutes a day to really build muscle and strength. He also states you must "pound the protein" to build muscle. Dr Lange and Roger spoke about long airplane trips and the risk of clots and DVTs from flying and being sedimentary while on the flight. They discussed ways to prevent clots and health issues while on the plane that may save your life.

During a live caller discussion, Dr. Lange explained the brain-supporting nutrients found in Fortifeye Focus and Fortifeye Focus & Brain, outlining how specific ingredients help support memory, cognition, and long-term brain health.

Several callers and Roger spoke warmly about Dr. Lange’s mother, Betty Lange, noting how remarkably sharp and “with it” she remains at 98 years young, serving as a real-world example of healthy aging.

Dr. Lange also briefly previewed a new kids’ gummy prototype currently in development, formulated with clinically studied amounts of lutein, astaxanthin, and zeaxanthin—designed to support eye and brain health in children without sacrificing quality or science.

Additionally, Dr. Lange explained the importance of using a high-quality rTG-form omega-3, how inferior products differ, and how consumers can determine whether their omega-3 supplement is truly effective. He always preaches to buy tg omega 3 or rTG omega 3 fish oil and stay away from the ethyl ester (ee) form on omega 3 fish oil.

The show ran smoothly with no technical issues, strong listener engagement, and excellent dialogue throughout—another successful and informative episode of Ask the Dr.
